ABOUT THE SPECIES:

Wyoming may be known for trout, but hidden among the state's warm-water lakes and reservoirs is another favorite: the largemouth bass.

Found in lower-elevation waters with abundant vegetation, fallen timber, and rocky shorelines, largemouth bass thrive in places where patience and precision often pay off. They prefer warmer, slower-moving water than trout, making them a popular target throughout the summer months.

Unlike trout that often sip delicate dry flies in clear currents, bass are aggressive predators. They'll explode from cover to crush topwater bugs, streamers, and poppers, creating some of the most exciting surface strikes in freshwater fishing.

Largemouth bass were introduced to Wyoming decades ago and can now be found in waters across the state, particularly in reservoirs and community fisheries where suitable habitat exists. While they may not have the alpine backdrop of Wyoming's trout, they offer an entirely different kind of adventure, and plenty of unforgettable days on the water.

Whether you're casting from a kayak, drifting along a quiet shoreline, or fishing the last hour before sunset, largemouth bass remind us that great fishing in Wyoming comes in many forms.
